One thing I can always count on as a small biz owner is… Failure. Yep, it’s definitely going to happen. It sucks and I’m never ready for it, but I can count on it. The really tricky sticky part (that took me a long time to realize) was that all of my failures were pointing me to my wins. Each failure got me one step closer.

I failed at a successful business model in newborn photography. Win: Newborn photography was NOT my passion. I failed to be content at multiple careers where I worked for someone else. Win: I was meant to do my own thing. I fail regularly at following the “script” for successful photographers. Win: I have the freedom to create my own path & define what success looks like for me. I failed to invest in an indoor studio option for family photography & have the opportunity to grow that side of my business. Win: I discovered my love for Brand Photography as a result. And the list goes on…

Somewhere along the way, the definition of “failure” became negative but I swear it’s the best teacher. So, go ahead & be ticked off at your failure but when you’ve recovered: pause & reflect and you’ll realize there was something to learn. It sucks, but it’s worth it. As so many things about being a business owner do…

As an expert in failing, I can promise you there are wins on the other side. Keep fighting the good fight, because failure is for winners.
